8 REASONS WHY ONE SHOULDN’T SKIP MEALS
Skipping meals as you slept
through breakfast or worked through lunch. Or just to reduce a few kilos you
consider skipping meals. But what about the
consequences?
For
starters, missing just one meal causes your blood-sugar levels to dive. Sugar
is the fuel your body runs on, and if it's not circulating in the correct
volumes, each organ in the body is affected. Also, without a new supply of
calories, your system moves into starvation mode to conserve energy. Your
metabolism slows, so the food you do finally take in isn't burned off very
efficiently.
2) PERFORMANCE
BECOMES SLUGGISH
Meal
skippers don’t perform as well. Their work accomplished is lesser, are
physically less steady, and are slower at making decisions.
3) LIKELINESS OF
OVEREATING
Ironic?
But let me introduce you to the fast-now, binge-later effect: When you deny
your body food, it only wants it more. (As skipping meals will put your body in
starvation mode, hence to overcome which you will perpetually eat more)
Keep your body happy and your hunger cues
won't rebel!!
5) MAY GET PRONE
TO CERTAIN DISEASES
Our
bodies need to be fed food regularly in order to maintain healthy levels of
blood lipids such as cholesterol, hormones such as insulin, and normal blood
pressure .As we sleep all night we are fasting, and so if we frequently do not
'break fast' in the morning, it puts a stress on our body that over time can
lead to insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and blood pressure issues.
6) TURNING TOWARDS JUNK INCREASES WITH MISSED MEALS
The body craves for
crappier foods when it skips meals. Skipping a meal is likely to make you feel hungrier
when it comes time to eat next, and this could cause you to eat more calories
than you would have otherwise. Skipping breakfast, in particular, has been
associated with obesity in several scientific studies, implying that missing a
meal can make you so hungry you’ll consume double or triple a normal meal's
calories when you eat next.
7) YOU MAY END UP
‘SKIPPING’ EXERCISE ALTOGETHER
Even if you push through
your fatigue and hit the gym or trail, skipping a meal can leave you feeling
terrible midway through your session. Usually called ‘Bonking’ .Combine the low
blood sugar that follows a skipped meal with the mental and physical demands of
work, parenting, and your other daily obligations, and you may find it nearly
impossible to exercise after skipping a meal.
8) SUGAR CRAVINGS
Body looks for immediate
requirement of sugar when your energy drops down as no fuelling was given as
meal was skipped, hence you remember dessert which had good effect on your
taste buds as well as which will boost your energy in no time and you are actually
feeling good after taking it. But in long run this habit will turn to weight
gain and inviting diseases. Dessert have fat as well as sugars in it, both are harmful,
so think over before u grab dessert. Rather have small, frequent and balanced
meals.
BOTTOM LINE: Not only does
skipping a meal take a complete toll on your system but also it conspires
against you leading to wild hunger pangs, sluggish metabolism, and many more
things. So what would be the wise strategy to lose weight? Make sure you eat
small regular meals, introduce your diet to complex carbs and lean protein and
ofcourse,Hit the gym!
